It’s Spring – or so they tell us, but here in Blighty we have had the most rain in the first three months of 2024 since records began. Now we understand that this is not untypical here in the UK but right now our brollies are worn out and we want out of our wellies.

Recently, and in a most un-digital way, we were asked to join our friends at GB News to talk about vinyl. What was established most surprisingly was the appetite for record labels to make vinyl releases of their digital albums. Now, whilst we none of us expect this to have a material effect on our business some pretty impressive fundamentals are emerging, and not just in new releases. The ‘Oldies’ get a look in on both back catalogue and second-hand trading. All of this plays a part on keeping legacy catalogue alive and encouraging new artists to rerecord both classic hits and some not well-known tracks. Vinyl does not compete with us – it enriches your content and plays a big part in promotion of all digital music and video.

At the other end of the spectrum to vinyl is AI. So much has already been said on this subject and again the media takes an interest especially when it feels threatened. The fight against illegal uploads and AI generated ‘noise’ dominates the music landscaped. There are reasons to combat certain types of “AI abuse’ but we are all living in a world whereby we have allowed it into our eco system and like the Aladdin’s Genie, it is now out of the bottle.
